A Day in the Life of Our Residents: Community and Care at Bob’s Place
Bob’s Place residents decide what their day will hold—with support from our qualified caregivers.
Many families hesitate to find their loved ones a spot in a “senior home” because they are worried it will be cold and clinical. They imagine strict schedules and a lack of community atmosphere. That is certainly not the case at Bob’s Place, our senior respite care space in Kawartha Lakes.
Bob’s Place provides care, comfort and community to our residents, most of whom are seniors with a wide range of care needs. It is staffed 24/7 by a team of specialized caregivers with the skills, experience, and compassion to keep your loved one safe and comfortable day and night. Most importantly, Bob’s Place was built to be a home away from home for our residents—a place to live well, enjoy new friends and activities, or simply rest and reflect.
At Bob’s Place, we prioritize personalized care. That means prioritizing routines over strict schedules, opportunities over required engagement, and community over isolation. Every day looks a little bit different for each of our residents—and we like it that way. But, if you’re curious what a day in the life of a Bob’s Place resident can look like, the rest of this article will give you a peek behind the curtain!
A Day In The Life Of A Resident At Bob’s Place
At Purple House Services and Bob’s Place, we understand that every individual is unique. That is why there is no single answer to what a day in a resident's life looks like. Each resident is set up with a team of three caregivers to ensure they have the level and quality of care they need to be safe, comfortable and cared for 24/7. While residents are free to engage in the day however they like, routines are in place to ensure a seamless flow to the day. Here’s what that can look like.
Starting the day. Good morning!
Residents wake up in their own room. One of their assigned caregivers can join them to assist with bathing, dressing, grooming and administering medications as needed. If help is not needed, the resident can go about their morning preparations and, when they are ready, make their way to breakfast.
Meal Time. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
Bob’s Place residents are lucky to have Chef David and his kitchen team preparing nutritious, delicious meals and snacks for them throughout the day. A resident’s specific nutrition needs are always considered so that everyone has something nourishing to fill them up. Residents can dine together in a shared dining space or, if they prefer, on their own. One of their caregivers can be on hand to assist with feeding as needed.
Free Time. Activities and programming together or independently.
Every day, there are activities and programming available to residents if they want to participate. Facilitated by the Bob’s Place team in common areas, these include games, exercises, arts and crafts, and more. If a resident isn’t in the mood to spend time with peers, there are many comfortable spaces for reading and working on independent hobbies. There is also an accessible outdoor space for residents to enjoy fresh air and fitness.
Care Services. Personalized care for residents.
Residents are paired with a team of specialized caregivers who can provide the care services required to meet their needs. Care services vary dramatically between residents and can range from support with personal care (bathing, hygiene, toileting, and grooming) to more complex support for residents with dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson's, or who have experienced a stroke. A resident’s caregivers are available to them 24/7, and together they will create a custom schedule for care.
Preparing for bed. Goodnight!
One or more of a resident’s caregivers will be on hand to help them prepare for the end of the day. This can include bathing, dressing and grooming as needed. It can also include taking medications and physically assisting a resident into bed, as needed.
Overnight care. 24/7 support.
We have staff on hand 24/7 to ensure the safety and comfort of our residents, even while they sleep. Caregivers can assist with nighttime waking, trips to the bathroom and anything else that comes up after hours.
